2-Year Craftsmanship Warranty & Consumer Guarantees
2-Year Craftsmanship Warranty & Consumer Guarantees Policy
Last updated: July 2026
1. Warranty Provider
This voluntary warranty is provided by:
Modern Viking Pty Ltd
Email: support@modernviking.com.au
Website: modernviking.com.au
Warranty claims may be submitted by email or sent to the business correspondence address stated above.
2. Application of the Warranty
Modern Viking’s two-year voluntary craftsmanship warranty applies to eligible new physical products purchased directly from Modern Viking since Modern Viking began trading.
For each eligible product, the warranty period begins on the date the product was delivered to the original purchaser.
For purchases made before this policy was published, this policy clarifies Modern Viking’s warranty claim process. It does not reduce any warranty representation or consumer right that applied when the product was purchased.
The warranty may be claimed by:
- The original purchaser
- A genuine gift recipient who can provide reasonable proof that the product was purchased from Modern Viking
3. Australian Consumer Law
The benefits provided by this two-year warranty are additional to all rights and remedies available under the Australian Consumer Law.
The two-year period does not automatically limit the period during which Australian Consumer Law rights may apply. Consumer guarantees continue for a reasonable period based on matters including the nature, price, quality, representations and expected durability of the product.
Mandatory Australian Consumer Law statement
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.
You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
This wording must remain exactly as written.
4. What the Two-Year Warranty Covers
Modern Viking warrants that eligible products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for two years from delivery when:
- Used only for their advertised purpose
- Handled lawfully and responsibly
- Maintained and stored according to the supplied instructions
- Not altered, misused or subjected to abnormal use
Subject to assessment, covered defects may include:
- Structural separation caused by defective manufacture
- Defective stitching, joints or fasteners
- Handles or components becoming loose because of defective workmanship
- Premature structural cracking not caused by impact or incorrect care
- A horn drinking vessel leaking because of defective sealing or construction
- Premature failure of a food-contact coating despite correct use and care
- A pizza-cutter wheel, axle or handle failing because of defective manufacture
- A knife handle or structural component failing during its advertised culinary use
- A display axe or sword developing a manufacturing-related structural defect during proper static display
- A sheath or stand failing because of defective materials or workmanship
- Personalisation completed differently from the customer’s confirmed instructions
- A product being materially different from its advertised or ordered specifications
Each claim will be assessed according to the product, its age, condition, intended use and the apparent cause of the problem.
5. Eligible Products
Unless a product page expressly states otherwise, the voluntary warranty applies to new physical products purchased directly from Modern Viking, including:
- Natural buffalo-horn drinking vessels
- Horn cups, mugs, tankards and shot vessels
- Pizza cutters
- Steak and culinary knives
- Blunt collector axes
- Blunt collector swords
- Jewellery
- Timber products
- Leather products
- Sheaths
- Display stands
- Physical gift sets and accessories
- Personalised versions of eligible physical products
6. Products and Transactions Not Covered
The voluntary warranty does not apply to:
- Gift cards
- Delivery or postage services considered separately from the physical product
- Products not purchased directly from Modern Viking or an authorised Modern Viking sales channel
- Counterfeit products
- Second-hand or privately resold products
- Products expressly supplied under different written warranty terms
- A defect or imperfection clearly disclosed before purchase
- Customer-submitted or customer-approved personalisation errors
These exclusions do not remove any rights that cannot legally be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.
7. Remedy Under the Voluntary Warranty
Where Modern Viking accepts a claim under this voluntary warranty, Modern Viking will choose an appropriate remedy, which may be:
- Repairing the product
- Replacing the product with the same product
- Replacing it with a reasonably comparable product where the original is unavailable
- Refunding the original purchase price paid for the affected product
The remedy will be provided without charge.
A materially different replacement will not be supplied without discussing it with the customer.
Store credit will not be imposed where Modern Viking has selected a monetary refund.
Modern Viking’s choice of remedy under this voluntary warranty does not restrict a customer’s right to choose a refund or replacement where the product has a major failure under the Australian Consumer Law.
8. Natural and Handmade Products
Modern Viking products may be handmade or constructed from natural materials, including genuine buffalo horn, timber and leather.
Reasonable natural differences may include:
- Colour and shade
- Grain and markings
- Pattern and texture
- Curvature
- Exact shape
- Minor differences in dimensions
- Minor differences in carving placement, depth or finish
- Natural leather and timber character
Disclosed natural differences are not, by themselves, defects where the product:
- Is made from the ordered material
- Matches the ordered design
- Remains within its advertised approximate specifications
- Is suitable for its advertised purpose
- Has acceptable workmanship, appearance, finish and safety
Natural variation does not excuse:
- Leaks
- Structural cracks
- Peeling or damaged food-contact coatings
- Dangerous or unfinished edges
- Incorrect materials
- Incorrect carved designs
- Incorrect personalisation by Modern Viking
- Material departures from advertised specifications
- Premature structural failure
- Unacceptable workmanship
- Unsafe products
9. Personalised Products
Personalised products receive the same warranty coverage for defects in the underlying physical product.
The warranty also covers personalisation completed incorrectly by Modern Viking.
A spelling, date, name, symbol, wording, font or placement error submitted or approved by the customer is not a defect where Modern Viking accurately followed the confirmed instructions.
The exclusion of personalised products from change-of-mind returns does not remove rights relating to faulty, unsafe, damaged or incorrectly personalised products.
10. What the Voluntary Warranty Does Not Cover
The voluntary warranty does not cover a problem to the extent that it was caused or contributed to by:
- Accidental impact, dropping, crushing or collision
- Deliberate, unlawful or abnormal use
- Use outside the product’s advertised purpose
- Failure to follow supplied safety, care, maintenance or storage instructions
- Normal wear and tear
- Loss or theft
- Damage caused by children, animals or unauthorised users
- Unauthorised repair or modification
- Grinding, drilling, welding, re-handling or structural alteration
- Improper sharpening
- Sharpening a deliberately blunt collector axe or sword
- Using a display-only product for cutting, chopping, striking, throwing or sparring
- Incorrect wall mounting or unsuitable wall fixings
- Exposure to prohibited heat, moisture, sunlight or chemicals
- Rust or corrosion caused by inadequate cleaning, drying, oiling or storage
- Dishwasher, microwave, freezer or hot-liquid use where prohibited
- Prolonged soaking of natural-horn products
- Continued use after visible damage or a safety issue became apparent
- Commercial or rental use unless the product was expressly advertised as suitable for that use
An exclusion applies only to the extent that the excluded event caused or contributed to the claimed problem.
Unrelated customer conduct does not excuse a separate manufacturing defect.
11. Normal Wear and Maintenance
The warranty covers eligible defects, not maintenance or wear reasonably expected during ordinary use.
Depending on the product, normal wear may include:
- Knife or pizza-cutter edges gradually becoming dull
- Light scratches caused by normal handling
- Leather gradually softening or developing a patina
- Natural horn or timber changing colour over time
- Gradual cosmetic finish wear
- Routine blade sharpening
- Routine leather conditioning
- Routine oiling of carbon-steel products
- Minor cosmetic changes that do not affect safety, structure or intended function
A problem must not be described as normal wear where the product failed prematurely or was not reasonably durable.
12. Product-Specific Conditions
Natural-horn drinkware
Unless expressly stated otherwise, natural-horn vessels must:
- Be used only with cold or suitably cool beverages
- Not be used with hot liquids
- Not be placed in a dishwasher or microwave
- Not be frozen
- Not be soaked for extended periods
- Be hand washed using mild detergent
- Be dried promptly after washing
- Be removed from use if the coating cracks, peels or becomes damaged
- Be removed from use if a leak develops
A leak, structural crack or premature coating failure occurring despite correct use and care may be covered.
Knives and pizza cutters
Routine edge dulling is not a manufacturing defect.
The warranty may cover structural defects involving the blade, handle, cutting wheel, axle or fastening during lawful culinary use.
It does not cover damage caused by:
- Throwing
- Prying
- Striking inappropriate surfaces
- Using a culinary product as a chopping or outdoor tool
- Improper sharpening
- Grinding or altering the blade
- Failure to maintain carbon steel
- Combat, intimidation or self-defence use
Blunt collector axes and swords
Modern Viking axes and swords are deliberately supplied with blunt, non-sharpened edges and are intended for collection and static display.
The warranty may cover a manufacturing defect that appears during proper handling, storage or static display.
It does not cover damage caused by:
- Cutting
- Chopping
- Striking
- Throwing
- Sparring
- Martial-arts training
- Contact re-enactment
- Sharpening or reprofiling
- Converting the item into a functional tool or weapon
- Incorrect mounting
- Unsuitable wall fixings
13. Making a Claim
To make a claim, contact Modern Viking as soon as reasonably practical after discovering the problem.
Email: support@modernviking.com.au
Provide where reasonably available:
- Order number or other reasonable proof of purchase
- Product name
- Approximate delivery date
- Description of the problem
- Date the problem became apparent
- Photographs or video showing the issue
- Information about how the product was used, maintained and stored
- Details of any injury or property damage
- Confirmation that the product remains available for assessment
The original packaging is not required to make a claim.
Modern Viking may accept another reasonable form of proof where the original receipt or order confirmation is unavailable.
14. Assessment Process
Modern Viking may reasonably:
- Review photographs or video
- Request further information
- Inspect the product
- Compare it with specifications or retained samples
- Obtain relevant information from the supplier or maker
- Consider the product’s age, condition, use, care and storage
- Request return of the affected product
Claims will be assessed within a reasonable time.
An assessment does not remove or restrict any Australian Consumer Law right or remedy.
15. Claim and Return Expenses
Customers must contact Modern Viking before returning a product or incurring substantial postage, inspection or repair expenses.
Where return is reasonably required, Modern Viking may:
- Provide a prepaid standard return label
- Arrange collection
- Reimburse reasonable, pre-approved standard return expenses
Modern Viking will bear reasonable claim expenses for an accepted voluntary warranty claim.
Where assessment establishes that the problem is not covered by the voluntary warranty and does not breach an applicable consumer guarantee, the customer may be responsible for reasonable return or redelivery expenses.
Modern Viking will explain any proposed charge before returning the product.
16. Safety-Related Claims
Stop using or handling a product immediately where it may be unsafe.
Do not:
- Continue using the product
- Attempt to repair or modify it
- Sharpen or dismantle it
- Dispose of it
- Return it without first receiving instructions
Modern Viking may ask that the product be quarantined, returned or made available for inspection.
17. Replacement Products
A replacement supplied under the voluntary warranty remains covered for the unused portion of the original two-year warranty period.
For example, where a product is replaced 18 months after the original product was delivered, six months remains under the voluntary warranty.
This does not restrict Australian Consumer Law rights applying independently to the replacement product.
18. Previous Purchases
This voluntary warranty applies to eligible products purchased directly from Modern Viking since Modern Viking began trading.
For previous purchases:
- The warranty runs for two years from the original delivery date
- Reasonable proof of purchase is required
- Any representation made at the time of purchase will also be honoured
- Australian Consumer Law rights continue independently of this voluntary warranty
Publishing this policy does not restart the two-year period for previously delivered products.
19. Policy Changes
Modern Viking may update this policy for future purchases.
A later change will not reduce the warranty already provided with an earlier purchase.
The warranty terms and representations applying when an order was placed will continue to apply to that order.
